The gallery/showroom and workshop of Shaw Fine Woodworking is located in the former Joines Brothers mercantile building in the rural community of Whitehead, North Carolina. This large, historic building was once the center of the community and for many years housed a country store, post office, machine and blacksmith shop and automobile repair shop. The wonderful old storefront has been transformed into a gallery/showroom while the remainder of the 1st floor serves as the woodworking shop.
While the focus of the gallery is to display furniture and other handcrafted pieces made on site by Shaw Fine Woodworking, we have a splendid selection of fine art and craft items by local and regional artisans. These include:
Botanical Lamp Shades byMike and Jane Floyd. These exquisite shades feature an array of dried/pressed flowers, ferns, leaves, grasses and other natural plant items that have been beautifully arranged, tinted, and hand applied to the lamp shade in a permanent manner. Truly unique!
Collectible Art Gourds by Sandra Price. The simple gourd has become the foundation for beautiful works of art. The intricate and delicate carving and painting of a variety of gourds in a variety of shapes and sizes is amazing and Ms. Price's imagination is boundless as no two pieces of gourd art are the same.
Hand Painted Glassware By Frances Joines. We have a large selection of hand painted stemware, vases, candles, and other pieces featuring Frances's fabulous "one-stroke" painting. Her signature wine glasses with grapes and leaves are especially popular.
Portrait Art by D. Jarrod Shaw. Specializing in photo realistic drawings in graphite and ink, Jarrod's portraits are lifelike in every detail and capture the true essence of the subject, whether a child or adult, and even pets. Our gallery features a large selection of celebrity portraits, whimsical drawings and other examples of his work.
Pottery by Keith Martindale. A well known Seagrove area potter, Keith's work is characterized by vivid color and flowing design. Our inventory includes a selection of deep cobalt blue pieces and a line of bold green/orange/rust colored pieces. Included are mugs, vases, bowls, rebecca jugs and more.
